Answers on a post card please to our Ings store!!  So, it’s fair to say Martin has had a busy week in the workshop producing 3 stunning and very different Open UP builds for gravellers far and wide.  Taking on average 10 hours a build depending on complexity he’s looking forward to his days off only to come back to tackle an UPPER!!

Highlighting the versatility that the UP frame gives you, here we have 3 builds that fill the 3 different customers requirements perfectly.

Number One (Far left)

  • 2018 electric blue colourway
  • FOX AX Gravel fork providing some suspension up front
  • SRAM Force CX1 Groupset
  • ENVE Bar, Stem and Seatpost
  • ENVE’s new 50 rims on Industry Nine hubs
  • Spattering of Fabric to finish off the saddle and tape etc

This monster miles bikes belongs to a regular who mainly rides big gnarly mountain bike trails worldwide, and got into gravel a fair few years ago ahead of the curve.  Getting hooked on it he has invested in this stunner with the addition of some Fox forks and potentially a dropper post to come to liven up his Lake District riding.  The bomb proof ENVE wheels on i9 hubs provide instant engagement and a lovely freewheeling sound.  The fork has been engineered professionally to fit this frame by a local chap and is now something we can offer across our Open frame platform for those interested.

Number 2 (Centre)

This model belongs to a chap who is tackling the Dirty Revier with us in April, and is along the lines of the most “standard” Open Up’s we regularly deliver around the UK.

  • 2017 Orange Open UP Frameset
  • Standard Rigid Fork
  • Easton Carbon Chainset with Shimano Ultegra Hydro Mechanical
  • Mavic Ksyrium Pro Allroad Wheels
  • 3T Finishing Kit
  • Panaracer 43mm Gravelkings SK Tan Walls!

Don’t worry he’s fast enough to get away with the tan walls and is super flexible with a slammed negative rise stem!!  The main focus for this one was a mile munching machine for the 200km ride in Kielder, but then it needed to be versatile enough to ride as road bike after the Reiver.  As mentioned earlier this is typical of the build we see going on Open UP frames.

Number 3 (Far Right)

The final one in the gang is a new Shimano Dura Ace / Ultegra Di2 hydro mix for the ultimate in crisp predictable shifting time after time.

  • 2018 Electric Blue Frameset
  • Standard Rigid Fork
  • Shimano Dura Ace Di2 Hydro Shifters with Easton Carbon Chainset and Shimano XTR Di2 Rear Mech
  • Hunt Gravel Carbon Wheels
  • Specialized S Works Stem and Post with a Pro Vibe Aero Bar
  • Colour Matched Tape
  • Panaracer Gravelking SK Tyres 35mm with Tan Sidewalls again!

Firstly I’d like to thank the new owner of this bike for his patience whilst we tried to obtain Shimano’s new Di2 hydro-groupset!!  Having ordered it back in April we still haven’t seen it all come through yet, so this Dura Ace upgrade had to be sourced from elsewhere to get it out of the door!!  Riding a mixture of on and off road around the country the focus of this one was crisp, clean shifting every time without compromise, hence the Di2.  Our very popular Hunt wheels offered the bike a superb weight to cost ratio for the bike and the coloured matched details on the saddle and bar complete the look.

Adding these 3 to the fancy one we showed you last month with the Quark Power Meter, it’s fair to say we’ve done a very large spread of Open Up’s this month.  If you’re looking for a bike to offer you versatility without the need for any mudguards or racks then this is the brand for you.  If you are looking for the ability to add in mudguards and use it for days in the saddle loaded up then it’s not the best option we have, that’d be the Vielo V +1, the Mason Bokeh or the Speicalized Diverge.

Either way, we are known in the trade as the authority on Gravel bikes and producing bikes like this it is clear to see why!
