Back in August 2017 the UK mountain biking community was taken by storm with the announcement of the Hope HB160 – a carbon fibre 160mm trail bike, hand made in the UK. The bike ticked all the boxes for fans of the Barnoldswick based company – with enduro focused geometry, a stunning design and a build kit dripping with CNC’d  aluminium goodness. Shortly after its release it was firmly cemented as one of the most sought after bikes on the market, with a whopping price tag and VERY limited availability helping to fuel that hype. That’s why we’re so excited to announce that the HB160 is now available to order from our Ambleside shop!

Fast forward to this year, and Hope have just announced that they are cutting the price of the HB160 by £2000 – bringing in line with the price of similarly specced bikes, and putting it within reach of a good proportion of riders. There is still the issue of availability, however, as Hope have made the bike exclusive to just a handful of dealers around the country. In fact, outside of the Hope factory in Barnoldswick, Biketreks is the only place to buy the HB160 in the North West of England!

The HB160 features all the workmanship and attention to detail we’ve come to expect from Hope. Much of the the carbon fibre technology has been developed in conjunction with the UK’s thriving F1 and Aerospace industries, with Hope using their own CNC machines to make the aluminium moulds. The carbon is all hand layed on site in Barnoldswick, meaning Hope have been able to oversee the whole process. The result is a frame produced with the highest degree of precision, quality and confidence.

There are a few new parts appearing on the HB160,too. The handlebars, pictured above, were first developed as a way for Hope to hone their carbon manufacturing process – the results were so good that they figured they might as well put them into production! A couple of neat features on the bars include graduated marks for perfect lever placement and a carbon lay-up allowing maximum strength and stiffness in all the right places.

The bike comes as standard with Fox’s brilliant Float X2 shock. This has easily been one of the most popular shocks of the last 12 moths, with many being fitted after market by riders who want to increase their bikes ability to deal with bigger hits and rougher trails. Naturally, this has been paired up front with Fox Factory 36 forks, again one of the most highly regarded forks on the market.

The new Hope cassette was specifically designed for use on the HB160, with several design tweaks to improve shifting and longevity. The rest of the drivetrain has been based around a SRAM XX1 11 speed shifter and rear mech and a Hope chainset. As you’d expect, pretty much everything else on the build comes from Hope, with Tech 3 E4 brakes, Hope headset and specially designed bottom bracket, and hope Pro4 Hubs (with a bespoke axel spacing for improved stiffness) laced on to Tech Enduro 35W rims. A Rockshox Reverb dropper post and Fabric Scoop saddle finish off the build.

Colour options are black or black on the frame, with the usual selection of 6 anodized finishes for your hope bits, plus the option of Hope racing green – usually reserved for their factory racing team. To be honest, with a bike this pretty it’s really hard to go wrong with the colour choice!

We will shortly be receiving our first HB160, so if you’re interested in buying one then please get in touch. We won’t generally keep the bikes in stock as they are essentially made to order from Hope. This can mean there might be a fairly substantial wait from when you place your order to actually receiving the bike, but that’s to be expected with a bike as exclusive as the HB160. If you would like any more information about the HB160 then feel free to give us a call or drop into our Ambleside shop and we’ll be happy to help. In the meantime feel free to drool over the pictures in this post!
