Patrick’s Custom Orange Stage 5

Stage 5 Edit

Say hello to the first Orange Stage 5 to leave our Ambleside shop! Patrick’s new steed, at first glance, doesn’t seem any different to a ‘run-of-the-mill’ Stage 5 LE, but when you start looking a little more closely you can see it has been given the BIketreks treatment. A few tweaks and upgrades here and there have turned what was already a formidable machine into an out-and-out superbike!

Stage 5 Shock Edit

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. This rule applied a lot when speccing Patrick’s Stage 5. The LE model has a has some seriously drool worthy kit on it as standard, like this Float X2 shock, so we left a lot of it alone (well, apart from finding some blue decals…).  The Float X2, combined with a set of 36s up front, allow this bike to make full use of it’s 140/135mm travel. Why would we change that?!

Stage 5 Brake Edit

Another component we left true to spec was the Blue Tech 3 E4 brakes. We’re often a bit cautious to combine coloured rotors and brakes; but in this case it really works. Hope brakes make a great addition to any bike as they provide a level of performance unmatched by other brands. Likewise, the rest of the bike has a similar smattering of blue hope kit; with the headset, bottom bracket and seat collar all made in the Barnoldswick factory.

Stage 5 Post Edit

A bike this bling could only have the triple Kashima treatment. A 150mm drop Fox Transfer Post suits this bike perfectly, especially when topped off with a colour matched blue SDG saddle. We’re seeing a lot of people speccing their bikes with Transfer posts at the moment, and with good reason. Fox’s dropper is, in our mind, the most reliable option on the market at the moment.

Stage 6 Wheel Edit

Another detour from the original spec is the wheelset. To keep this bike light and nimble we’ve replaced the RaceFace ARC 30/Hope Pro 4 wheels with some carbon goodness from Mavic. The XA Pro Carbons are lightweight, stiff and look fantastic. Carbon wheels can really change the dynamic of a bike, adding a playfulness to the ride that you don’t get from aluminium.

Stage 5 Rear Edit

The Drivetrain has also received the Biketreks treatment, with the original XT kit being ditched in favour of a SRAM XO1 Eagle 12 speed system. The Eagle drivetrain, with it’s whopping 500% gear range, will make the bike more versatile and should provide smoother, more consistent shifting.
