July has been an exciting month here at Biketreks – with the release of the new Hightower LT, a new Turbo Levo and – at last – the arrival of Santa Cruz’s brilliant new Chameleon. The Chameleon was announced back in April, and we’d sold out of our pre-ordered ones by May! In fact, the Chameleon had proved so popular that it was impossible for Santa Cruz to keep up with demand, so we’ve had a very long wait for them to finally land. The upside of this, however, was that it meant there was plenty of time for our customers to chose their perfect spec!

With the Chameleon’s purple and green colour scheme, using purple Hope kit is a no brainer. This bike features a Hope headset, bottom bracket and hubs. We’ve also sent a frame to a customer which is being given the full Hope treatment, with purple cranks and chainring!

While the Chameleon has been hugely popular, a lot have people have been less than less than inspired by the build kits available on them. This custom build has been fitted with a Shimano XT 1x11 drivetrain, which is not an option on the ‘out-of-the-box’ builds.

Custom building bikes also gives you a lot more options if you have specific components you can’t live without. Hope brakes are a great example of this – if you’ve ever ridden with them you’ll know why! Choosing black brakes on this build rather than purple has helped to make sure the bike doesn’t look over the top – an easy mistake to make on custom builds.

Suspension is covered by a Fox 34 Performance fork – again not an option on the basic builds. The seatpost also comes from fox, with a 150mm Performance Transfer post to match the fork. The Anodized stantions of the fork and dropper suit this bike really well. Although Kashima does always look good, the performance range is consistent, reliable, and will help to keep the price of your custom build down.

If you would like any more details about this build, or would like to discuss your dream bike with us, then feel free to get in contact! We’re always happy to give people advice on custom builds and will happily put together an estimate if you have a build in mind. Keep an eye on our website for more custom build coming in the near future!
